Over the weekend I had a chance to do a little crochet for myself.  A couple weeks ago I ordered some yarn from Michael's.  Their brand is called Loops & Threads.  I ordered the Impeccable and am really pleased with it.  It is soft, easy to work with and comes in a variety of colors; both solids and ombres.  You can find this 100% acrylic yarn here on their product page.  It is on sale this week for $2.50 per skein!!  You can't beat a deal like this!!
This link is not an affiliate link, I am placing the link here for your convenience, so you can view or shop Michael's yarns at your leisure.  When ordering on-line you must buy three (3) skein packages, they have an email service and are always sending % off coupons.  You can even use the coupons on sale items; giving you an even better deal.
I found them reasonably priced with prompt shipping.  Here is the Cluster Shells Cowl I created in their Impeccable #4 weight yarn.  The colorway I used is called "Stillness."

Gauge:  Not important in this pattern.  Cowl measures 8.5 inches wide by 33 inches long.
Designer notes:  This pattern is written in American Crochet terms and rated beginner. Piece is worked in rows and then seamed.  This stitch pattern uses multiples of 8 plus 3 for your turning chain.

Row 1:  With J hook ch 123, dc in the 4th ch from hook and each ch across.  Ch 5, (counts as 1st dc, ch 2 on following row) turn.
Row 2:   Sk next dc, sc in next dc, *ch 5, sk 3, sc in next dc; repeat from * across to last 2 dc, ch 2, sk 1, dc in top of tc, ch 4, turn.
Row 3:  CL in 1st dc, * ch 3, sc in next ch 5 sp, ch 3 **, CL shell in next ch 5 sp; repeat from * across ending last repeat at **; (CL, ch 1, dc) in last ch 5 space, ch 1, turn.
Row 4:  sc in 1st dc, * ch 3, (YO, insert hook in next ch 3 sp; draw up a lp; YO pull through 2 lps on hook) 2 times; YO draw through remaining 3 lps on hook; joined dc made.  Ch 3 **, sc in ch 3 space of next CL shell, repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, sc in 3rd ch of tc 4, ch 3, turn
Row 5:  *3 dc in next ch 3 space, dc in top of next joined dc; 3 dc in next ch 3 space, dc in next sc, repeat from * across, ch 5, turn.

Row 6:  * sc in 2nd dc of next 3 dc group, ch 5, repeat from * across, ending last repeat with ch 2 (instead of ch 5) dc in top of tc; ch 4, turn.

Repeat rows 3 through 6 for pattern, ending by working a row 5.

I did 4 repeats of the pattern set for this cowl.  If you wish to make it wider (you will need another skein of yarn) continue with the pattern repeats until it is a desirable width for you.
