Home made hat's Shell Stitch Baby Hat
Baby Shell Hat, shown with HMH's thumbless baby mitts
Materials
Worsted weight yarn approximately 1.5 2 oz (I used Lionbrand Heartland)
small amount contrast color for trim
Flat circle meas at end of rnd 4 = 4" fits 3/6 month baby
J/6 mm hook
Gauge 4 hdc x 2 rows = 1”
Magic ring ch 2 make 12 hdc in ring, join with slip st on top of ch 2. Ch 2 (12 hdc)
If you don’t know the magic ring method you can chain 3, make 12 hdc in 3rd chain from hook
Rnd 2 two hdc in each st around, join with slip st, chain 2. (24 hdc)
Rnd 3 hdc in same st as join, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join, ch 2. (36 hdc)
Rnd 4 hdc in same st as join, hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next sts, repeat from * around, join, chain 2 (48 hdc)
Rnd 5, 3 hdc in same st as join, *Sk 2 st, 4 hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join with slip st. (15 hdc shells)
Rnd 6 slip st in next st, ch 2, 3 hdc in same st, *skip 3 st, 4 hdc in next st. Repeat from * around, join with slip st. (15 hdc shells)
Rnd 7 - 13 repeat round 6.
Rnd 14 ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next 2 st, *skip 1 st, sc in next 3 sts, repeat from * around (46 sc) join contrast color with slip st in 1st sc, chain 1 Rnd 15 sc in each st around, (46 sc) join with slip st in first sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends. Embellish with Home made hat’s Sixpuff Flower Embellishment or my Picot Flower

Rnd 7 - 13 repeat round 6.
Rnd 14 ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next 2 st, *skip 1 st, sc in next 3 sts, repeat from * around (46 sc) join contrast color with slip st in 1st sc, chain 1 Rnd 15 sc in each st around, (46 sc) join with slip st in first sc.
