1 cake Lion Brand Mandala #3 weight yarn
J/10/6mm hook
Tapestry needle
This shawl is worked from the point up. This pattern is written in American Crochet Terms and is rated as "easy".
Designer notes: you will be working in the spaces between the v-sts of the previous row, not in the v-sts
Stitches and abbreviations used:
V-Stitch - V-st (to make: dc, ch 1, dc in st or space indicated)
Double Crochet - dc
Single Crochet - sc
Chain - ch
Turning chain - tc
Magic Ring - mr

To begin: make mr, ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1 here and throughout) dc in ring. Pull ring tight. If you do not know the magic ring method you can ch 4 and dc in first chain made. Turn, ch 4.
Row 2: dc in first dc, v-st in 3rd ch of tc. Turn ch 4
Row 3: dc in first dc, skip 1 dc, v-st in next space, v- st in 3rd ch of tc. Turn, ch 4.
Row 4: dc in first dc, skip 1 dc, *v-st in next space, skip next v-st, rep from * to end, v-st in 3rd ch of tc. Turn ch 4
5 - 70: repeat row 4
When you reach the end of row 70, do not fasten off, you will be working a row of sc picots across the top of your shawl. This step is optional.
Row 2: dc in first dc, v-st in 3rd ch of tc. Turn ch 4
Row 3: dc in first dc, skip 1 dc, v-st in next space, v- st in 3rd ch of tc. Turn, ch 4.
Row 4: dc in first dc, skip 1 dc, *v-st in next space, skip next v-st, rep from * to end, v-st in 3rd ch of tc. Turn ch 4
5 - 70: repeat row 4
When you reach the end of row 70, do not fasten off, you will be working a row of sc picots across the top of your shawl. This step is optional.
Picot /Crab Stitch Edging
Row 1: ch 1, *sc in first dc, ch 3, ss in 3rd ch from hook, (picot made.) skip ch 1 space of V-stitch of previous row, sc in next dc, sc, picot in next dc, repeat from * across; ending with a sc in last dc of previous row. Your picots should be centered over the ch 1 spaces of your v-stitches of the previous row.
When you reach the end of the neck edge, do not fasten off, you will be working in the ends of your rows from this point on.
Row 1: *ch 1, sc, repeat until you reach the point of shawl, in point work, sc, ch1, sc, ch 1, continue working up opposite side of shawl; ending with a sc in top edge.
Row 2: ch 1, (do not turn) you will be working a *crab st, ch 1 in each sc of previous row, continue working around edge until you reach the opposite top edge, fasten off. Weave in ends. Block, wear or gift.
