Foundation Double Crochet (FDC) does the same thing as it's sister stitches foundation single and foundation half double crochet. It creates a row or round of stitches as you chain. Saving time and also giving your project a more finished look. It also gives necklines a little extra stretch. The step to make the Foundation Double Crochet are as follows:
I find that by turning my work sidewards, I can work into the v of the chain base easier. It is also helpful to "pinch" the chain portion of the stitch while completing the double crochet portion of the stitch. I have found that making foundation stitches requires practice. You may want to practice making your foundation stitches before starting on a project that uses them. This way you will be confident making foundation stitches. I am including a picture tutorial that you can find <HERE> and a video tutorial for your use in mastering this wonderful stitch! I would like to take the time to say "Thank you" to Liz from Playin' Hooky Designs for letting me link her tutorial for you. I am also including a video tutorial for those of you that perfer to learn by watching someone else perform the stitch. I would like to say "thank you" to Tamara of Moogly for allowing me to embed her video for your use. This completes my series of Foundation Stitches. What will you make with your knewly learned technique? Please feel free to leave a comment or send me an email if you are having any problems with thes technique.
