Foundation Half Double Crochet

Foundation Half Double Crochet like the Foundation Single Crochet stitch creates a starting row and chain all in one step.  The steps to make a FHDC is as follows:

1. Make slip knot & chain 2
2. y/o and insert hook in 2nd chain from hook
3. pull up loop, y/o pull one loop off hook (chain made)
4. y/o pull all 3 loops off hook, (hdc made)
5. repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have made the desired number of stitches your pattern calls for.

I have found that it is easier for me to hold my work sidewards and to "pinch" the chain portion of my work while completing step 4.
