I have had several requests for this hat done in a worsted weight yarn. For this model I used Red Heart Super Saver in White and Red Heart Accents in Pool. I have also included instructions for making this for an older child, ages 8 and up. These instructions are in blue.
Materials: Red Heart Super Saver #4 worsted weight yarn 2-3 oz white (mc) Small amount blue (cc) J/10/6mm hook Tapestry Needle Stitches and Abbreviations Used: mc - main color cc - contrasting color dc - double crochet mr - magic ring sc - single crochet hdc - half double crochet Bst - berry stitch; to make: insert hook into designated stitch or chain, bring up loop, leaving loop on hook, ch 3 more sts, draw yarn through both loops on hook. Bst made. ch - chain lp - loop st(s) - stitch(es) ss - slip stitch Rated: Beginner This pattern is written in American Crochet terms. This pattern is worked in the round. To begin, with J hook and mc make mr, ch 2, 12 dc in ring, pull ring closed. If you don’t know the mr method, ch 3, 12 dc in 3rd ch from hook. Join with ss in top of ch 2. Chain 2(12 dc) Round 2 - 2 dc in each st around; join, ch 2. (24 dc) Round 3 - *2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next st, repeat from * around. Join, ch 2. (36 dc) Round 4 - *2 dc in first st, dc in next 2 sts, repeat from * around. Join, ch 2. (48 dc) Stop increasing here for child sized hat. Round 5 - *2 dc in first st, dc in next 3 sts, repeat from * around. Join, ch 2. (60 dc) Rounds 6 - (10) 13 - dc in each st around. Join, ch 2. Stop mc here for child size hat & continue with rounds 15 - 17 Round 14 - dc in each st around, join, change to cc, ch 1. Round 15 - sc in each st around, join, pick mc back up, join, ch 1. (60 sc) Round 16 - *sc in first st, Bst in next st, repeat from * around, join, pick up cc, ch 1. (30 sc, 30 Bst) Round 17 - sc in each st around, join. Fasten off, weave in ends. (60 sc) Bow - optional With J hook and cc, ch 8, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. (6 hdc) Rows 2 - 20 - hdc in each stitch across, ch 2, turn. (6 hdc) Fasten off. Wrap center of bow with yarn, attach to hat. Note: I had to tack down the top corners of my bow with a small piece of yarn to keep the bow corners from turning.
