No Sew Tee Shirt Bag
Today I am going to show you how to make a bag out of an old (or new) tee shirt. This is a great project for the kids. You can tye dye your shirt when you are done or decorate it however you wish. I would like to say "This is not my idea!" I saw a similar project on-line. I can't find the tutorial to show you here, so I made my own.
Step 1. Gather your supplies.
You will need one tee shirt. I used old ones but you could use new and let the kids decorate or dye them. It is up to you.
A pair of scissors, a bowl to trace the outline on the neck of the shirt. You don't need this, but it helps to give the kids a guide line for cutting. A washable marker for tracing the bowl.
Step 2. Place the bowl over the neckline of the tee shirt. Using your marker, trace around the bowl. See pic 2.
Step 3. Cut out the neckline of your tee shirt. I used a bowl and created a rounded neckline. You can cut this to any shape you wish.
Step 4. Cut off the sleeves of your tee shirt. I cut right behind the seam.
Step 5. Cut the hem off of your tee shirt. Save this piece of the shirt.
Step 6. Using the hem of the tee shirt, gather the bottom of the shirt and tie the hem around it.
As an alternative to using the hem to tie the bottom of your bag closed, you can cut fringe on the bottom of the tee shirt & tie knots to close it. This bag makes a great beach bag for the kids to put their towel and toys in!! Have fun with this project and let the kids decorate or dye it however they wish too. My two gran'littles used glue sticks and glitter to decorate their bags with.
