One for the Guys

Here is my Front Post Double Crochet hat adapted for the man in your life!  Made of Universal Yarn's  80/20 wool/acrylic blend it is sure to keep him warm in the cold weather.  I edged this hat with a Front Post Reverse Single Crochet.  It didn't create the usual Reverse Single Crochet (Crab Stitch) edge; it gave it a nice smooth finished edge.  I am really quite happy with the way it came out.  This hat takes 1 3.5 oz skein of  Universal Yarn's Classic Worsted.

Materials:
Universal Yarn Classic Worsted 1 3.5 oz skein
J hook
Tapestry needle

Stitches & Abbreviations Used:
FPdc - Front Post Double Crochet - To make a FPdc, yarn over, insert hook from front to back  around the post of the indicated stitch.  Yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through last 2 loops on hook.  FPdc made
dc - Double Crochet
mr - Magic Ring
ss- Slip Stitch
ch - Chain
FPsc - Front Post single crochet
To make a Reverse Single Crochet, working backwards around hat make a FPsc in each stitch around.  I don't know what the name of this stitch would be called.  It will give your hat a nice finished edge.

This pattern is written in American Crochet terms.

Round 1 - make mr, ch 2, 12 dc in ring.  Join with ss in first dc, ch 2
If you don't know the Magic Ring method you can ch 3, make 12 dc in 3rd chain from hook
Round 2 - 2 FPdc around each stitch  (24 FPdc) Join with ss in first stitch, ch 2.
Round 3 - *2 FPdc around first stitch, FPdc around next stitch; repeat from * around.  (36 PFdc) Join with ss in first stitch, ch 2.
Round 4 - *2 FPdc around first stitch, FPdc around next 2 stitches, repeat from * around. (48 FPdc) Join with ss to first stitch, ch 2.
Round 5 - *2 FPdc around first stitch, FPdc around next 3 stitches, repeat from * around. (60 FPdc) Join with ss to first stitch, ch 2.
Rounds 6 - 22 - FPdc around each stitch around. Join ch 2.  At end of round 22, join and ch 1.
Round 23 - FP reverse single crochet in each stitch around. 
Fasten off, weave in ends.
