Today I am going to share a new hat pattern with you. This easy hdc hat pattern is quick to work up, uses a bulky weight yarn and a K hook. Even with our Christmas deadline getting close, you can still whip up one of these hats in no time at all!
What you will need: 1 5.3 oz skein of Lion Brand Scarfie 1 K/6.5/10.5 mm hook tapestry needle for weaving in ends Stitches and abbreviations used: (dc) double crochet (hdc) half double crochet (sc) single crochet (ss) slip stitch (st/s) stitch, stitches (ch) chain (mr) magic ring (ssaj) same stitch as join You will be joining with a slip stitch in the first st made, not the ch 1 at the beginning of each round. Rnd 1: make mr, ch 2, 12 dc in ring, pull ring tight, join with a ss in first dc made, ch 1 (12 dc) if you do not know the mr method, ch 3, 12 dc in first ch made, join ch 1 Rnd 2: 2 hdc in ssaj and each st around, join, ch 1 (24 hdc) Rnd 3: 2 hdc in ssaj, *hdc in next stitch, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join, ch 1 (36 hdc) Rnd 4: 2 hdc in ssaj, * hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join ch 1 (48 hdc) Rnd 5: 2 hdc in ssaj, *hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join, ch 1 (60 hdc) Rnds 6 - 11: hdc in each st around, join, ch 1 Rnd 12: hdc in ssaj, *ch 2, skip 2 st/s, hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join, ch 1 Rnd 13: hdc in ssaj, *2 hdc in ch 2 space, hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join, ch 1 Rnd 14: hdc in ssaj, hdc in each st around, join, ch 1 Rnd 15 - 16: Repeat round 13 & 14, join, ch 1 Rnd 17 - 18: sc in ssaj and in each st around, at end of rnd 18, fasten off, weave in ends. ![]()
I made this hat as a gift. I added my Picot Flower to it. Please excuse the ends, I wasn't sure if I was going to add the flower or not and had to get another opinion. The flower won, to attach the flower I made 3 french knots in the center and then tacked it down at the picots to make sure it didn't droop and stayed secure.
