PictureSparkling Fans Scarf - Women's
This pretty scarf is made with worsted weight yarn with a strand of sparkle running through it.  The pattern is written out in two widths; one for children and one for adults.  Any worsted weight yarn will work for this pattern.

This stitch pattern uses multiples of 8 + 2.  This means that the stitch uses 8 stitches and you need 2 stitches for the turning chain.  In order to make your scarf wider you would need to chain a multiple of stitches that can be evenly divided by 8, plus 2.  The plus number is only added once.

For the children's scarf I used 24 chains plus 2, for a total of 26.  For the adult scarf I used 32 plus 2 for a total of 34 chains.

I used a foundation single crochet to begin my scarves.  If you are not familiar with this stitch you can review it in my post on foundation stitches.

Materials:

Caron's Simply Soft Party Yarn
I used two 3 oz skeins Purple Sparkle for Ladies Scarf
1.5 - 3 oz skeins Spring Sparkle for Children's Scarf
J/10/6 mm Hook
Scissors
Tapestry Needle

Stitches Used:

Fan:  In specified stitch, work (dc, ch 1) 4 times
Back Post Double Crochet (BPdc): YO, insert hook from back to front to back around post (vertical bar) of specified st; YO, draw up a loop to the height of a dc; (YO, draw through 2 loops) twice BPdc made.
Single Crochet: sc
Double Crochet: dc

Notes:  Pattern is written in adult width, children's width in parenthesis. Please read complete pattern before beginning.  If you are not familiar with foundation stitches please see my link above.  As an alternative to fsc, you can chain amount needed and begin by working in 2 chain from hook.

Pattern:

fsc  or chain 34 (26) turn

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd fsc (or ch) ; *sk next 3 fsc (ch), fan in next fsc (ch)**; sk next 3 fsc (ch) sc in next fsc (ch); re from * across, ending last rep at **; sk next 3 fsc (ch) sc in last fsc (ch); ch 3 (counts as first dc on following row), turn.

Row 2:  *BPdc around post on 2nd dc of next fan, ch 2, sc in next dc, ch 2, BPdc around post of next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * across; ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1 sp on following row), turn.

Row 3:  (Dc, ch 1, dc) in first dc; *sc in next sc, sk next st, fan in next dc; rep from * across to last sc; sc in last sc, work (dc, ch 1) 3 times in 3 chain of turning ch. Turn.

Row 4:  Sc in first dc, ch 2, BPdc around post of next dc, dc in next sc; *BPdc around post of 2nd dc of next fan, ch 2 sc in next dc, ch 2, BPdc around post of next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * across to  last 2 sts; BPdc around post of next dc, ch 2, sc in 3rd ch of turning ch-4; ch 1, turn.

Row 5:  Sc in first sc; *sk next dc, fan in next dc, sc in next sc; rep from * across; ch 3, turn.

Repeat rows 2 through 5 for pattern.

Work pattern until desired length, ending with Row 4.   For last row, sc in each stitch & chain space across, fasten off, weave in ends.

I worked my scarves to be 32 inches for child and 48 inches for adult.

Lovely. I'm a big fan of Simply Soft Party, I'm glad they're adding colors to the line.
