After designing a new summer hat I had some cotton left over. I used it to create this little boater for an 18" doll. This pattern has not yet been tested.

Summer Boater for 18" Dolls
Materials
I/5.5 mm hook Small amount #4 weight cotton Tapestry needle for weaving in ends Stitches & Abbreviations Used Half Double Crochet - hdc Single Crochet - sc Slip Stitch - ss Chain - ch Long Half Double Crochet - lhdc to make: work a hdc in the next st of the previous round. Long Double Crochet - ldc to make: work a dc in the next st of the previous round. Cross Stitch - xst Magic Ring - mr Main Color - mc Contrast Color - cc Designer Notes: When working a long half double or double crochet, you will be working over the stitch of the previous round, skipping the stitch worked over in the round you are working. This will give you the color work pattern on the brim of the hat. All rounds are joined in the top of the beginning chain 2. To begin, with mc make mr, ch 2, 12 hdc in ring. If you don’t know the magic ring method you can chain 3 and work 12 hdc in the 3rd ch from hook. Join with ss in top of beg ch 2. Round 2 - ch 2, 2 hdc in ea st around (24 hdc) Join. Round 3 - ch 2, *2 hdc in first st, hdc in next st, repeat from * around (36 hdc) Join. Round 4 - 5 ch 2, hdc in ea st around. (36 hdc) Join. Change to cc Round 6 - ch 2, skip 1st st, hdc in next st, hdc in skipped st, (cross stitch made) *skip next st, hdc in next st, hdc in skipped st, repeat from * around. Join, change to mc. (18 cross st) Round 7 - 9 ch 2, hdc in ea st around (36 hdc) change to cc Round 10 - Repeat round 6. (18 cross st.) change to mc, join Round 11 - ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around (72 hdc) change to cc, Round 12 - ch 2, hdc 3, ldc in next st or previous round, *hdc 3, ldc, repeat from * around. Change to mc Round 13 - ch 1, sc 3, lhdc in next st of previous round, *hdc 3, lhdc, repeat from * around. Fasten off, weave in ends. Feel free to sell any items made from this pattern.
